Türkiye launches comprehensive upgrade of Leopard 2A4 tanks PHOTO / VIDEO
Türkiye has initiated a major modernisation programme for its Leopard 2A4 main battle tanks, aimed at enhancing the capabilities of the country’s armoured forces.
The programme began under the framework of the urgent T1 armoured system modernisation project, Caliber.Az reports, citing SavunmaSanayiST.com.

In addition, a comprehensive upgrade project, named TİYK-LEO2A4, has been launched. The programme will encompass all Leopard 2A4 tanks in Türkiye’s service and is set to include:

Modular armour (except for 80 tanks)

Remote-controlled weapon stations

Short-range observation systems

Driver’s technical vision equipment

Auxiliary power units

Integrated tank management information systems

Explosion suppression measures

Protective linings

Enhanced life-support systems
Modernisation work has already begun on tanks withdrawn from active service under the TİYK-LEO2A4 project, with the first upgraded vehicles expected to be delivered in 2026.
