Türkiye launches investigations into online misinformation after school shooting
Türkiye’s Ministry of Justice has announced the launch of legal proceedings across all 81 provinces against individuals accused of glorifying violence, justifying criminal acts, spreading panic, or disseminating false information on Telegram, social media platforms, and other digital networks.
The measures were intensified following a school attack in Kahramanmaraş, Caliber.Az reports, citing Turkish media.
Authorities said online activity and digital publications are now under close monitoring by state institutions.
The ministry said that, under the coordination of 171 chief public prosecutor’s offices handling serious crimes, urgent legal procedures have been initiated against individuals.
Authorities also reported that arrests of suspects are already underway.
Prosecutors are working in coordination with law enforcement agencies as part of a so-called “virtual patrol” system aimed at detecting illegal content.
Officials emphasised that the measures are intended to maintain public order and security, as well as to rapidly prevent the spread of disinformation.
