Türkiye plays big role in Turkmenistan's foreign policy, says Turkmen leader

11 December 2022 17:58

Turkmenistan's President Serdar Berdymukhamedov has said that Türkiye plays a major role in his country's foreign policy.

The president made the remarks at a meeting of the Council of Ministers attended by the country's diplomatic representatives abroad, Anadolu Agency reports, citing the newspaper Turkmenistan.

"Our friendly relations with this country are developing and expanding every year. We will further develop our strategic bilateral cooperation in all spheres", Berdymukhamedov said.

Noting that relations between Turkmenistan and the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) are developing effectively, Berdymukhamedov said: "Our country has been participating in the TSO since November last year at the level of an observer. It is important to make the necessary arrangements for the organization's various activities, including high-level meetings in Turkmenistan".

"Cooperation with the International Organization of Turkic Culture [TURKSOY] has reached a qualitatively new level in recent years. Turkmenistan actively participates in programs of TURKSOY. Last days, at the regular meeting of the TURKSOY Permanent Council the year 2024 was declared as the year of the famous Turkmen thinker and poet Makhtumkulu.

The ancient and historical city of Anev was declared the Cultural Capital of the Turkic World in 2024. Starting next year, together with TURKSOY, appropriate preparations must begin in order to organize and hold these important events at a high level", President Berdymukhamedov concluded.
