Turkiye, Portugal in talks over Bayraktar drones - foreign minister

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu has said Portugal is in talks with Turkish defence company Baykar on procuring TB-2 Bayraktar drones.

"I have learned that talks between Baykar and Portugal have started," Cavusoglu said at a news conference alongside his Portuguese counterpart Joao Gomes Cravinho, TRT Haber reported on January 30.

Baykar has so far inked export deals with 28 countries for its drones, with Kuwait becoming the latest customer with a massive deal amounting to $370 million.

If Portugal and Baykar reach a deal, the country will become the second EU and Nato member to procure TB-2 Bayraktar drones after Poland. In recent years, Baykar's drones have drawn international attention in Ukraine, Iraq, Libya and Karabakh.
