Türkiye prepares for potential migration from Iran, official says
Türkiye is preparing for a possible wave of migration from Iran amid escalating conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel, Turkish Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi said.
Çiftçi said Turkish authorities have developed three potential response scenarios. The first involves containing migration flows within Iran before they reach the Turkish border. The second calls for establishing buffer zones along the border to manage and control movement. The third, in cases of extreme necessity, would allow migrants to enter Turkish territory under controlled conditions, with authorities assuming responsibility for their placement, Caliber.Az reports via Turkish media.
The minister emphasised that there is currently “no unusual activity” at border crossings and that the flow of entries and exits remains within normal limits.
At the same time, Türkiye has prepared infrastructure to accommodate approximately 90,000 people in the initial stage of a potential migration influx.
