In line with the needs of the Turkish Army Command, the main contractor ASFAT is working on a 155-mm howitzer integrated into an 8x8 tactical wheeled vehicle.
According to Defense Turk, the ARPAN-155 designation was used for a 155mm vehicle howitzer that is still undergoing field testing. As part of the project, 8x8 tactical wheeled vehicles developed by Turkish BMC Company for Panther howitzers will be used as carrier platforms.
A "contract for tactical wheeled vehicles" was signed between ASFAT and BMC as part of the T-155 Panther howitzer modernization project. The ARPAN-155 model was earlier presented at the IDEAS exhibition in Pakistan.
The ARPAN-155, the fire control system of which was developed by ASELSAN, offers high strategic, operational, and tactical mobility compared to tracked systems with similar firepower, and also benefits from a low initial acquisition cost and low operation and maintenance costs.
These systems provide a significant advantage over towed howitzer systems through rapid readiness and high manoeuvrability, especially in hit-and-go missions. The navigation system, electronics, hydraulic system, and user interface of the howitzer were updated, including the addition of digital communications, technical fire control, a ballistic computer and fire support command control system (ADOP-2000) integration.
