Kremlin: Trump’s remarks on Ukraine unlikely to improve US-Russia relations
The Kremlin has downplayed recent remarks by US President Donald Trump expressing disappointment with the state of the Ukraine conflict, suggesting that such comments carry little weight in the broader context of US-Russia relations.
Speaking at a briefing, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that the issues surrounding Ukraine and bilateral ties between Moscow and Washington should be considered separately, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.
"These are different matters: one concerns the Ukrainian settlement, the other – our bilateral relations, which are weighed down by numerous unresolved issues," Peskov clarified.
Peskov’s comments come days after US President Donald Trump expressed frustration with the lack of progress in resolving the conflict. Trump also announced he would continue supplying weapons to Ukraine, on the condition that Europe, under NATO coordination, funds those deliveries.
The US president further warned of imposing 100% tariffs on Russia’s trading partners if a resolution over Ukraine is not reached within 50 days.
Despite these developments, Peskov noted that Moscow and Washington are still holding talks aimed at easing tensions and addressing bilateral issues. Yet, according to the Kremlin, progress on that front has recently slowed due to what it described as a lack of initiative from the American side.
