Türkiye reaffirms commitment to ongoing counterterrorism operations VIDEO

Türkiye’s Defence Ministry has vowed to continue its decisive efforts against terrorist organizations threatening Syria's territorial integrity and regional stability.

Brigadier Admiral Zeki Akturk, the ministry's spokesperson, emphasized that Türkiye would not tolerate any terrorist formations or unilateral actions in the region, Caliber.Az reports citing Turkish media.

Speaking at a weekly press briefing in Ankara on January 30, Akturk reaffirmed Türkiye's commitment to combating groups such as the PKK/PYD/YPG/SDG and Daesh (ISIS). "We will continue to take preventive and decisive measures against all terrorist groups," he said, highlighting that Türkiye remains steadfast in ensuring the region's security.

Akturk further emphasized Türkiye's intent to bolster its cooperation with the newly-formed Syrian administration to enhance the country’s defence and security capabilities. This collaboration, he noted, is also essential for facilitating the safe, voluntary, and dignified return of Syrian refugees. A technical delegation from Türkiye’s Ministry of Defence recently visited Syria to engage in discussions about these issues.

In his remarks, Akturk also provided updates on Türkiye’s ongoing military operations. Turkish forces are conducting "continuous and comprehensive" counterterrorism operations in northern Iraq and Syria. Over the past week, 57 terrorists were neutralized, raising the total number of terrorists neutralized in 2025 to 278. Additionally, three PKK terrorists surrendered, with Akturk reiterating that surrendering to Turkish justice remains the only viable option for terrorists.
