Türkiye rejects claims of planned terror attack during NATO summit as disinformation

03 July 2026 18:00

The Centre for Countering Disinformation under the Turkish Presidential Administration has dismissed reports circulating on social media and other sources claiming that a terrorist attack was being planned in Ankara during the NATO summit.

According to a statement, the centre described the reports as false and part of an attempt to spread panic and psychological pressure, Caliber.Az reports.

“Posts on some social media platforms aimed at creating a false impression that a terrorist attack will occur in Ankara during the NATO summit are clear disinformation and an attempt to wage psychological warfare,” the statement said.

It added that such content was intended to “sow fear and panic” and undermine public confidence in security conditions. The agency said that relevant authorities are taking all necessary measures and that legal proceedings have been initiated against individuals responsible for spreading misleading information.

The centre also urged the public to rely only on official statements and avoid engaging with what it described as manipulative or unverified claims.
