"In order to eliminate the terrorist threat as well as to secure Türkiye's borders, airstrikes were carried out at 8 p.m. on October 3, 2023, in accordance with the right to self-defence under Article 51 of the UN Charter, against terrorist facilities in the areas of Metina, Hakurk, Qandil, Asos and Gara in northern Iraq.
A total of 16 military facilities consisting of caves, shelters, bunkers, hideouts and warehouses used by the separatist terrorist organisation were destroyed. As a result of pinpoint strikes exclusively on military targets, a large number of terrorists were neutralised," the Turkish Defence Ministry said in a statement.
The Turkish Armed Forces emphasise that all precautions were taken during this operation to avoid harming the civilian population, friendly forces, historical and cultural sites and the environment.
