Türkiye’s BOTAŞ, Australia’s Woodside Energy sign LNG supply deal PHOTO

24 September 2025 12:22

Türkiye’s state-owned oil and gas company BOTAŞ and Australian energy firm Woodside Energy have signed a long-term liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply agreement in New York, Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar announced on X.

Under the deal, BOTAŞ will receive around 5.8 billion cubic meters of LNG (in natural gas equivalent), primarily sourced from the Louisiana LNG project in the United States. Deliveries are set to begin in 2030 and continue for nine years, Caliber.Az reports per local media.

“I am pleased to witness this important agreement and hope that this new partnership between BOTAŞ and Woodside will pave the way for broader cooperation,” Bayraktar said.

The Louisiana LNG project, located on the US Gulf Coast in Louisiana, was acquired by Woodside Energy in 2024. The project’s initial phase includes three liquefaction trains with a capacity of 5.5 million tons per year each (16.5 million tons total), with potential expansion to 27.6 million tons per year across five trains.

The first LNG shipments are expected in 2029, with full-scale production planned for the early 2030s. The facility is projected to supply around 24 million tons of LNG per year, accounting for more than 5% of global LNG supplies.

Mercuria Energy Trading SA is a global commodity trading company with a significant presence in North America. The company operates in various sectors, including natural gas, electricity, crude oil, refined products, and ethanol, with offices in key U.S. locations such as Houston and Greenwich.

Woodside Energy is an Australian energy company that has expanded its operations into the U.S. market. The company has corporate offices in major U.S. cities, including Houston, Texas. Woodside's U.S. presence is further solidified through its $17.5 billion liquefied natural gas (LNG) project in Louisiana, which is the largest foreign direct investment in the state's history.

Both companies are actively involved in the U.S. energy sector, contributing to the country's energy infrastructure and market dynamics.
