Türkiye's Gaziantep and Azerbaijan's Baku to become sister cities
The Turkish city of Gaziantep and Azerbaijan’s capital, Baku, are set to establish a sister city partnership, according to Fatma Şahin, Chair of the Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality.
Şahin noted that more than 20 cities in Türkiye and Azerbaijan already maintain sister city relationships, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
Negotiations are underway to include Gaziantep in this growing list. She also highlighted that the idea was discussed during her visit to Baku last year in connection with her participation in COP-29.
“During our time in Baku, we explored Azerbaijani cuisine and tea traditions, as well as outstanding examples of artisanal crafts. Most likely, our sister city partnership will be formalised with Baku. Gaziantep’s municipal activities have been recognised internationally, and based on this experience, we plan to organise joint events to promote Azerbaijani culture, traditions, and cuisine,” Şahin said.
