Türkiye’s population surpasses 86 million in 2025
Türkiye’s population reached 86,092,168 as of December 31, 2025, marking an increase of 427,224 compared to the previous year, according to data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK).
The report shows a nearly even gender distribution, with 43,059,434 men (50.02%) and 43,032,734 women (49.98%). The number of foreign residents also rose by 38,968, bringing the total to 1,519,515.
Urban dwellers account for 93.4% of the population, while 6.4% live in rural areas. However, 33 provinces saw a population decline compared to 2024.
Istanbul remains the most populous city with 15,754,053 residents, up 52,451 from the previous year, representing 18.3% of Türkiye’s total population. Other major cities include Ankara (5,910,320), Izmir (4,504,185), Bursa (3,263,011), and Antalya (2,777,677).
The average age of the Turkish population rose to 34.9 years, up from 34.4 years in 2024.
