Türkiye’s Roketsan developing new UMTAS-GM rocket

01 May 2023 12:54

Roketsan is developing a new UMTAS-GM anti-tank missile with an increased range of destruction.

Roketsan CEO Murat Ikinci made the remarks about the development, answering a journalist's question about 40 secret projects that the company is working on, Caliber.Az cites SavunmaSanayiST.com as saying on Twitter.

He noted that Roketsan continues to develop and makes a separate focus on exporting its products.

“One of them is a version of the UMTAS-GM rocket. The prototype is already ready, and the tests are still ongoing. The UMTAS-GM version will actually increase the range of our UMTAS anti–tank missile, especially due to the ability to fire from helicopters and ground vehicles," he said.

The company strives to introduce a product as soon as possible that can occupy a large part of the international market and provide an advantage to the Turkish army.

Our goal is to introduce our users to UMTAS-GM, which may be ready for mass production at the end of this year," Murat Ikinci added.

He stressed that the implementation of the UMTAS-GM anti-tank missile project will significantly increase the capabilities of the Turkish armed forces and should close the need for anti-tank weapons.

In addition, UMTAS-GM is planned to be used on Turkish ATAK-II attack helicopters.

We also noticed that in a certain sense, Türkiye is trying to create a competitor for the Israeli Spike-NLOS complex.

UMTAS missiles with infrared homing heads and L-UMTAS missiles with laser homing heads. The range of these missiles is up to 8 km. The updated missile should get a much longer range.

Technical parameters have not yet been disclosed, but they emphasize that it is probably about updating the missile homing head. In order to propose a new solution, Roketsan has done a lot of research work.

We try to reflect all the income received from exports as an investment in our infrastructure and a research resource for new projects. These 40 projects are needed for our armed forces in the future…
