The head of Türkiye's Defence Industry Department Ismail Demir said on December 30 that the Siper national air defence system had been successfully tested.
"A New Year gift to the people of Türkiye from the defence industry. A guided missile fired during a test of our Siper long-range air defence system successfully hit a target at a distance of over 100 km," he wrote on Twitter, according to TASS.
The Siper air defence system being created in Türkiye as an alternative to the Russian S-400 and American Patriot will enter the Turkish Armed Forces in 2023.
Türkiye began the development of the system in 2019. According to Türkiye's plans, the Siper system should form the basis of national air defence by 2026.
