Türkiye, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan build new defence framework Joint military mechanisms to follow Mecca pact

Türkiye, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan will establish political and military mechanisms under a defence pact signed by the three regional powers last week, Türkiye’s Defence Ministry said on August 13, adding that the alliance would also deepen cooperation in the defence industry.

The three countries signed the “Mecca ⁠Joint Defence Agreement” on August 7. The states said the pact stipulates that an armed attack against any one of the participants would be considered an attack against all, similar to NATO’s Article 5 on collective defence.

At a weekly briefing in Ankara, the ministry said the mechanisms would bring together the three countries’ defence ministers, foreign ministers and military chiefs.

Joint military exercises are also planned under the pact, while defence industry cooperation may include joint production and technology sharing.
