Türkiye signals willingness to mediate in Russia-Ukraine conflict
Ankara has expressed its readiness to serve as a mediator in the ongoing negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, a high-ranking source announced.
The Turkish government has communicated its position to both parties involved in the conflict, as well as to Western nations, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
"We have informed all sides of the conflict, including our Western partners, that we are prepared to mediate," the source stated. However, they noted that Türkiye has not yet proposed any specific plans or initiatives.
The source also dismissed media reports suggesting that US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin are preparing for negotiations in Türkiye, calling these claims rumours.
Turkish officials have previously emphasised Türkiye’s readiness to mediate in the conflict, citing its experience in facilitating negotiations in Istanbul in March 2022. However, the agreements reached during those talks reportedly "collapsed" due to subsequent developments.
Earlier, the Turkish media reported that discussions aimed at a peaceful resolution of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine could commence between April and May of current year.
