NetBlocks: Iran's 552-hour internet blackout among most severe in global history
The internet connection in Iran has been almost completely cut off for over 550 hours, marking one of the most extensive internet shutdowns ever recorded globally, according to the international internet monitoring service, NetBlocks.
"It's now day 24 of Iran's internet blackout, with the measure passing 552 hours among the most severe registered in any country," the service stated.
International connectivity remains unavailable to the general public while authorities maintain a selective whitelist for global access.
The shutdown follows the military operations launched by the United States and Israel against Iran on February 28.
Major cities, including Tehran, were targeted in the airstrikes. In response, the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has declared a large-scale retaliatory operation, striking Israel. The attacks also hit U.S. military installations in Bahrain, Jordan, Qatar, Kuwait, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia.
