Justice minister: New Armenian constitution legally ready
The new Constitution of Armenia is fully ready from a legal perspective, though work is still ongoing regarding its political content, stated Armenia's Minister of Justice, Srbuhi Galyan, during a press briefing at the National Assembly.
Galyan explained that the process of finalising the document is continuing in collaboration with the Constitutional Reform Council, with public discussions playing a key role in shaping its development, Caliber.Az reports via Armenian media.
"The process is not static; it will not be the case where the text is published, and that’s the end of it. We will publish parts of the text or provisions to engage the public’s emotions and allow for reflection. In other words, we will gather opinions, make revisions, and those changes will also be discussed with the Council," Galyan said.
Regarding Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s statement that the new Constitution should exclude references to the Declaration of Independence, the Minister pointed out that this is a political stance, and participants in the reform process are free to express their views.
"Prime Minister Pashinyan is expressing his opinion about what he believes is right, and members of the Constitutional Reform Council also have the right to voice their own position," she added.
