Türkiye states progress in European integration depends on EU's political will
Türkiye has emphasized that the advancement of its European integration process is contingent upon the political will and strategic approach of the European Union.
This statement was made by the Turkish Foreign Ministry in response to the European Commission's annual report on enlargement and the progress for candidate countries, published on October 30, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.
The ministry's commentary noted the necessity for a fresh perspective on Türkiye-EU relations in light of current regional and global challenges. While welcoming recent EU efforts toward cooperation with Türkiye, it stressed that the revitalization of relations requires concrete steps rooted in the EU's political will and strategic vision.
Türkiye reiterated its commitment to constructive collaboration with the EU.
Ankara has been officially pursuing EU membership since 2005. One significant obstacle in the negotiation process is the Cyprus issue. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has stated that while EU membership is a strategic goal for Türkiye, Ankara opposes linking its accession to the resolution of the Cyprus dispute.
