Türkiye to avert Greek waters expansion in Aegean Sea, minister warns
Türkiye will not allow Greece to expand its territorial waters in the Aegean Sea even by a mile, said the Turkish foreign minister Mevlut Cavusoglu.
The Turkish parliament adopted a clear statement on this issue in 1995 and it is still in force, Cavusoglu said at a press conference on the 2022 results in Ankara on December 29, Anadolu reports.
Referring to the situation in the region, the minister said Ankara is in active contact with countries and international bodies over the issue.
"We continue discussions with the UN, the US, Russia, Iraq, and the Bashar al-Assad regime. Just yesterday [December 29], the heads of Türkiye’s defence and intelligence services were in Moscow. I myself will soon hold talks with my Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov," Çavusoglu said.
