Türkiye to deploy F-16 jets to Northern Cyprus

Türkiye will deploy six F-16 fighter jets to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) on March 9, TRNC Deputy Head of Civil Aviation Aşkın Meşeli announced.

Meşeli noted that the combat aircraft will be transferred to northern Cyprus on the morning of March 9 for security purposes, per Turkish media.

The move is not expected to affect civilian aviation operations.

Sources in Türkiye’s Defense Ministry said on March 7 that the deployment of F-16s to the TRNC was under consideration.

Local media also reported that the issue, along with the Iranian crisis, will be on the agenda of the government meeting scheduled for March 9 under the chairmanship of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
