Türkiye to establish NATO Multinational Command to coordinate defence
NATO plans to establish a regional headquarters for the Turkish Corps (MNC-T R) in Türkiye, tasked with coordinating the country’s defence, liaising with Alliance forces, and commanding troops if necessary, the Turkish Ministry of Defence announced on its official website.
The ministry emphasised that the headquarters will be multinational, although only the core staff have been appointed so far, and the final structure has yet to be determined, Caliber.Az reports.
Since 2024, NATO has been planning to create five combined operational groups for maritime operations: Atlantic, Northern, Baltic, Mediterranean, and Black Sea.
The Black Sea group Black Sea Combined Task Force’s headquarters will be under Turkish command until 2028, after which it could be transferred to Romania or Bulgaria.
The Ministry stated that establishing these headquarters addresses Turkey’s security needs and reflects its political position in the Black Sea region.
