Türkiye to launch GOKDOGAN, BOZDOGAN missiles from onshore, offshore platforms PHOTO
Projects are being implemented in Türkiye to use GOKDOGAN and BOZDOGAN air-to-air missiles from onshore and offshore platforms.
Director of TUBITAK SAGE Gurcan Okumus stated that there are plans to use missiles developed within the GOKTUG project on alternative platforms, Caliber.Az reports citing the Defence Turk’s message on Twitter.
“The GOKTUG project includes many testing processes. We are at the final stage. Our testing and manufacturability research are underway. Moreover, we continue working to use various platforms. We are reviewing whether we can use them in UAVs, helicopters or short-range air defence systems offshore,” the message said.
NASAMS, which is used by NATO countries, can be cited as an example of GOKDOGAN and BOZDOGAN missile system onshore. AIM-120 AMRAAM air-to-air missiles were integrated into the NASAMS system with the AMRAAM-ER missile, which was developed by combining an AIM-9X Sidewinder rocket engine and a RIM-162 ESSM rocket.
For offshore operations, the BOZDOGAN missile must be designed for a system similar to Sea-RAM (ASELSAN GOKDENIZ ER, ROKETSAN LEVENT). Some changes in the design of existing missiles may be required due to the difference in conditions of onshore and offshore use.
