Türkiye unveils Eren drone with laser weapon
Law enforcement agencies of some countries are showing interest in the world's first drone with a laser weapon called Eren, made in Türkiye.
Its flight range is 3,000 metres. The drone may hit a target with a laser weapon at a distance of up to 100 metres, according to Anadolu Agency.
The drone was showcased at the stand of the Turkish Ministry of Interior as part of the TEKNOFEST KARADENIZ Aviation, Cosmonautics and Technology Festival in Türkiye’s Samsun city.
The Eren drone was developed by the TUBITAK and ASISGUARD defence companies under the coordination of the Forensic Department of the Turkish General Directorate of Security (EGM).
The drone is capable of destroying explosive elements at a distance through laser weapons.
EGM representative Osman Tuysuz said that the intellectual property rights for the development belong to the Turkish General Directorate of Security.
“The drone will be able to neutralise carbon steel from a distance of 100 metres through a laser. The drone is capable of destroying explosive elements at a distance. This is the first such development in the world, and it has been implemented in Türkiye,” he said.
Tuysuz added that the Eren drone will be put into service in the near future.
