Türkiye unveils new 105mm self-propelled howitzer URAN at defence expo
Türkiye has unveiled its domestically produced 105mm self-propelled howitzer URAN at the SAHA-2026 defence industry exhibition in Istanbul.
The system was developed based on engineering experience gained from the towed howitzer BORAN, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
After entering service with the Turkish Armed Forces, BORAN quickly secured export contracts and was delivered to Bangladesh in 2024, becoming the country’s first exported howitzer system.
Building on BORAN’s proven mobility, lightweight design and rapid deployment capability, URAN integrates its firepower with a 4×4 mobile platform. This allows for high manoeuvrability, quick deployment and effective fire support even in difficult terrain and climate conditions.
The system is equipped with a fire control system developed by MKE, is capable of firing up to 12 rounds per minute, and can engage targets at a range of up to 18 km. It is designed around modern “shoot-and-scoot” battlefield doctrine, enabling rapid firing and immediate repositioning.
Turkish Defence Minister Yaşar Güler stated during the presentation that multiple friendly and allied countries have already placed orders for the system, adding that deliveries will follow.
