"In the last week alone, the Turkish military neutralised 33 terrorists, including in Iraq and northern Syria. This brings the total number of terrorists eliminated since the beginning of this year to 1,715 and the total number of terrorists eliminated since 24 July 2015 to 39,058," Akturk said.
He said an air operation was carried out last night (October 25) against terrorist targets in the areas of Metin, Gara, Awashin, Hakurk and Qandil in northern Iraq.
"A total of 19 sites were destroyed, including caves, bunkers, shelters and warehouses used by the separatist terrorist organisation. The terrorist organisation was severely damaged in the complex strikes, with many terrorists neutralised. The assessment of the defeat of the targets is ongoing," the press service head noted.
Since 2016, Ankara has launched a trio of successful anti-terror operations across its border in northern Syria to prevent the formation of a terror corridor and enable the peaceful settlement of residents: Euphrates Shield (2016), Olive Branch (2018), and Peace Spring (2019).
In its more than 35-year terror campaign against Türkiye, the PKK – listed as a terrorist organization by Türkiye, the US and EU – has been responsible for the deaths of more than 40,000 people, including women, children and infants. The YPG is PKK’s Syrian offshoot.
