Iran’s president blames Tehran for shortcomings with Azerbaijan, calls for unity VIDEO
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has called for stronger ties between Iran and neighbouring Muslim countries, including Azerbaijan, while expressing concern over Israel’s growing presence in the region.
Speaking during a visit to the northwestern city of Zanjan, Pezeshkian emphasised the importance of regional unity among Muslim nations to prevent outside interference, Caliber.Az reports.
“We must act together—alongside all the Muslims around us,” he said. “If we stand united, they [others] will not be able to intervene,” he said.
Referring specifically to neighbouring Azerbaijan, Pezeshkian described it as “our kin, our family,” and questioned why Iran has not succeeded in forging closer relations.
“How can it be that I cannot go there and form an alliance with them, while Israel can?” he asked. “I must ask myself—what is my fault, why was I unable to establish friendly and healthy relations with my brothers and sisters, while Israel succeeded?”
He concluded by stressing that the blame lies not with Azerbaijan, but with Iran’s own diplomatic shortcomings.
“The fault lies with me, not them. They are our brothers and sisters, our relatives and kin,” he said.
