Türkiye reaffirms commitment to regional security, OSCE principles MFA Statement
Türkiye on August 1 marked the 50th anniversary of its signing of the Helsinki Final Act, reaffirming its long-standing commitment to regional peace, dialogue, and cooperation across the Euro-Atlantic and Eurasian regions.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Türkiye recalled its role as one of the original signatories of the landmark agreement, signed in 1975 under the Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe (CSCE), which sought to reduce tensions between opposing blocs during the Cold War, Caliber.Az reports.
“The Helsinki Final Act laid the foundations of a security architecture based on dialogue and cooperation in a broad region spanning across the Euro-Atlantic and Eurasian geographies,” the Ministry said. “It established core principles that remain relevant today.”

The Ministry highlighted Türkiye’s early and active support for the CSCE process, noting that the country “has not only reaffirmed its commitment to regional peace and stability, but also actively contributed to the development of the European security architecture based on the principles of international law.”
According to the statement, following the transformation of the CSCE into the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) in 1994, Türkiye has remained an active participant. A significant milestone came in 1999, when Türkiye hosted the OSCE Summit in Istanbul, where the “Charter for European Security” – also known as the Istanbul Charter – was adopted.
“The İstanbul Charter has become one of the fundamental documents of the OSCE by setting out the principles and methods for ensuring security, peace, and stability of the OSCE area in the 21st century,” the Ministry noted.
Emphasising the OSCE’s role as the largest regional security forum, the statement reiterated Türkiye’s ongoing contributions across all dimensions of the organisation’s work – politico-military, economic and environmental, and human.
“Türkiye constructively contributes to efforts aimed at enhancing the Organization’s effectiveness and functionality, recognising the OSCE as one of the key pillars of peace and stability across a broad area,” it added.
Looking ahead, the Ministry stressed Türkiye’s continued dedication to multilateralism, despite growing geopolitical challenges.
“Türkiye will resolutely continue to pursue active diplomacy, dialogue, and cooperation in support of multilateralism and will remain committed to contributing to stability and peace in the OSCE region,” the statement concluded.
