Türkiye, US discuss sanctions exemption for Russia’s Gazprombank
Türkiye has brought up the matter of requesting an exemption from US sanctions on Russia's Gazprombank during discussions with American officials.
The matter was reportedly brought up during talks with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who visited Ankara on December 13, Caliber.Az reports citing Turkish media.
Sources close to the discussions revealed that the Turkish delegation made the necessary requests for an exception to the sanctions during meetings with Blinken. The US side acknowledged these requests, with officials noting that they are currently evaluating the matter.
Earlier, Türkiye’s Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar commented that the US sanctions on Gazprombank have negatively affected Türkiye, particularly in relation to payments for natural gas imports from Russia. The Turkish Foreign Ministry is reportedly engaged in ongoing talks to resolve the issue and ensure the continuity of these transactions.
