Turkmenistan hosts celebrations to mark opening of Arkadag city PHOTO

The first smart city Arkadag was opened in Turkmenistan on June 29, with President Serdar Berdymukhamedov in attendance.

The new city has an infrastructure that meets international environmental standards, which provides optimal comfort and convenience for residents of the settlement, according to the news agency Turkmenistan Today.

It is planned to launch eco-friendly types of public transport along the city highways - electric buses and electric taxis. Thus, the city of Arkadag embodies all the newest and most progressive that is in the world of urban planning and engineering and technical thought.

The start of the celebrations was given on the square near the monument "Akhan", where the creative teams of Turkmenistan performed with musical and choreographic compositions. President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and foreign guests then went to the main square of the city of Arkadag.

During the celebrations, the opening ceremony of the Arkadag monument took place.

Arkadag is a city, the administrative center of the Akhal velayat of Turkmenistan. It is under active construction. The new administrative center, which will house approximately 70,000 people, is being built on an area of 950 hectares, located 30 km southwest of Ashgabat.

The implementation of the mega-project was launched in 2019.

The project was initiated by the Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

The city is being built on the basis of the concept of "smart city" using advanced new-generation technologies.
