Two dead, five injured as highway crane falls in Thailand's Samut Sakhon
A crane collapsed in Thailand on January 15, crushing two vehicles and killing two people, just one day after a separate crane accident in the northeast caused the deaths of 32 train passengers, according to foreign media, citing authorities.
The latest incident occurred in Samut Sakhon province, near Bangkok, where a crane working on the construction of an elevated highway toppled onto the road below, Police Colonel Sitthiporn Kasi, superintendent of the local district police station, confirmed.
Another police official at the station said that five additional people were injured in the accident.
This marks the latest in a string of fatal incidents linked to construction projects in Thailand. It follows a January 14 accident in northeastern Nakhon Ratchasima province, where a crane involved in an elevated high-speed rail project collapsed, causing a train derailment. That crash resulted in 32 deaths and injuries to 66 of the 195 passengers aboard the train. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
