Two people were killed and five others injured in an explosion at a residential building in northwestern Türkiye on Saturday, July 4, local media reported.
The blast occurred on the sixth floor of a six-storey building in the Çorlu district of Tekirdağ province. A fire broke out in the apartment following the explosion, which was preliminarily attributed to a natural gas leak.
Emergency response teams, including ambulances, firefighters and police, were dispatched to the scene after authorities received reports of the incident. Security forces established a wide safety perimeter around the area.
Officials confirmed that two people died at the scene. Five individuals received initial medical treatment from emergency crews before being transported by ambulance to nearby hospitals, where they were placed under observation.
The explosion caused significant damage to the apartment as well as the building’s exterior facade. Police and fire crews continue to inspect the site as part of an ongoing investigation.
