Two oil tankers hit by UAV attacks near CPC terminal

Two oil tankers were attacked near the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) marine terminal, including one that was actively loading crude at an offshore mooring facility, RBC reports, citing the company.

The tanker Nissos Sifnos, operating under the flag of the Marshall Islands, was targeted while loading oil at the CPC’s offshore mooring unit VPU-3. The attack took place at 01:48 local time.

“As a result of the attack by UAVs, a fire broke out in the area of the manifolds for oil intake on the cargo deck, which was extinguished by the tanker’s crew with the participation of three CPC auxiliary vessels,” the company said in a statement.

No casualties or injuries were reported among CPC personnel or contractors, and no oil spill occurred. The vessel remained afloat, and an assessment of the damage is ongoing.

“Oil loading has been suspended, while pipeline facilities continue to operate as normal,” the CPC statement said.

A second tanker, Marathi, sailing under the flag of the Isle of Man, was also attacked approximately six nautical miles (about 11 km) from the CPC marine terminal. The vessel was en route to load oil at the time of the incident.
