UAV found on Istanbul’s Black Sea coast
An unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) has been discovered on the Black Sea coast in Istanbul’s Arnavutköy district, prompting Turkish authorities to deploy bomb disposal specialists amid concerns that the aircraft could contain explosives, according to İHA news agency.
Rescue workers were alerted after local fishermen reported the discovery. The Coast Guard was notified, and Navy bomb disposal experts were dispatched to examine the UAV.
Following an inspection, military authorities said the device would be detonated as a precautionary measure.
The discovery comes just days after ammunition was found in the same area on August 17. The origin of the ammunition, as well as that of the UAV, has not been established.
An unmanned boat was also previously found along the coast and was subsequently rendered safe by bomb disposal specialists.
