UK announces new sanctions on Russia targeting oil tankers, individuals
The UK has imposed new sanctions against Russia, targeting four individuals, six entities, and 20 ships, including oil tankers and suppliers of electronics, as part of a coordinated effort with G7 countries to pressure Russia over its war in Ukraine.
The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office updated the UK Sanctions List on June 17, 2025, reflecting the latest measures aimed at cutting off Russia’s energy revenues and restricting supplies to its military and economy, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
The list also targets Main Directorate for Deep-Sea Research of Russia’s Defence Ministry.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer is expected to provide more details during the G7 summit in Canada later on June 17.
Earlier, he stated that the UK wants "to work with all of our G7 partners to squeeze Russia's energy revenues and reduce the funds they are able to pour into their illegal war."
Since the 2022 invasion of Ukraine, Britain has sanctioned more than 2,300 individuals, entities, and ships connected to Russia. Starmer stressed the need to maintain pressure, stating, "we should take this moment to increase economic pressure and show President [Vladimir] Putin it is in his - and Russia’s interests - to demonstrate he is serious about peace."
