UKMTO: Container ship comes under IRGC fire in Strait of Hormuz

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) has confirmed an attack on a container vessel in the Strait of Hormuz, approximately 15 nautical miles off the coast of Oman.

According to the statement, the ship’s captain reported that a speedboat belonging to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) approached the vessel and opened fire without warning via VHF radio communication, causing serious damage to the ship’s bridge.

“No fires or environmental impact reported. All Crew reported safe. Vessels are advised to report suspicious activity to UKMTO,” the statement added.
