UKMTO reports tanker fired upon in Strait of Hormuz

The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported that a tanker came under attack in the Strait of Hormuz, approximately 20 nautical miles northeast of Oman.

According to UKMTO, the vessel’s master reported being approached by two gunboats believed to be affiliated with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

"UKMTO has received a report of an incident 20NM northeast of OMAN. The Master of a Tanker reports being approached by 2 IRGC gun boats, no VHF challenge that then fired upon the tanker. Tanker and crew are reported safe. Authorities are investigating," the statement said.
