Ukrainian strikes reach Russia’s TANECO refinery, Tamanneftegaz terminal VIDEO / PHOTO / UPDATED

20 August 2026 14:42

Ukraine’s Armed Forces have confirmed strikes on the TANЕCO oil refinery in Nizhnekamsk, Russia’s Republic of Tatarstan, and the Tamanneftegaz oil terminal in Krasnodar Krai.

According to Ukraine’s General Staff, the strikes took place on August 19 and during the night of August 20.

The General Staff said the TANЕCO refinery was hit, with a fire subsequently reported at the facility. The refinery can process up to 16 million tonnes of crude oil annually and produces a range of petroleum products, including motor fuels. Ukraine said the facility is involved in supplying the Russian military.

The Ukrainian military also reported a strike on the Tamanneftegaz oil terminal in the settlement of Volna in Krasnodar Krai, where a fire was reported.

The Taman transshipment complex can handle up to 19.9 million tonnes of crude oil, petroleum products and liquefied hydrocarbon gases a year. The terminal transfers oil and petroleum products from rail transport to seagoing vessels.

Ukraine’s General Staff said both facilities support Russia’s logistical and fuel requirements.

Drones attacked the TANECO oil refinery in Nizhnekamsk, Russia, overnight on August 20, with preliminary reports saying 12 people were killed, according to OSINT channels.

Footage circulating online shows the moment the refinery was hit, as well as a Russian Pantsir-S1 air defence system attempting to repel the attack.

According to preliminary reports, at least 12 people were killed at the refinery. A monitoring channel said foreign specialists may have been among those killed, as in previous similar attacks.

Drones also targeted several other facilities in Russia that night, including the Taman-Neft oil terminal and the 500-kV Taman substation in Krasnodar Krai.
