Ukraine buys M109 howitzers from Belgian private company
American self-propelled howitzers M109 were sold to Ukraine by a private company from Belgium. Previously, they were in service with the Belgian army.
According to RBC-Ukraine with reference to the Belgian magazine La DH, this was stated by Belgian Defense Minister Ludivine Dedonder.
According to her, OIP Land Systems sold Ukraine 155-mm M109 howitzers, which were decommissioned by the Belgian army back in 2008.
It is worth noting that earlier the Belgian Ministry of Defence tried to buy American self-propelled guns from Flanders Technical Supply (FTS), which bought them back in 2015, at the request of Ukrainian officials. But at that time, the M109s were at the disposal of OIP Land Systems.
Dedonder noted that she does not know all the details of how Ukraine received the M109, but today she is "only interested in information about the receipt of self-propelled guns by Ukrainian soldiers."
