Ukraine confirms strikes on Afipsky oil refinery, Astrakhan gas plant in Russia

25 August 2026 14:10

Ukraine has confirmed that its forces struck an oil refinery in Russia’s Krasnodar region and a gas processing plant in the Astrakhan region.

The Ukrainian General Staff said the Afipsky oil refinery was hit overnight on 25 August, causing a fire at the facility.

The refinery is one of the largest in the region, with a designed capacity of 6.25 million tonnes of crude oil a year. It produces diesel fuel and petrol components, among other products.

Ukraine also said two gas separation units at the Astrakhan Gas Processing Plant had been hit.

The plant supplies products to the Russian armed forces and produces technical sulphur used in the manufacture of explosives, according to the Ukrainian statement.

The facility, which is part of Russia’s Gazprom system, has a capacity of up to 12 billion cubic metres of gas and about 7.3 million tonnes of gas condensate a year.
