05 March 2026 08:54

Ukrainian drones targeted several regions of Russia overnight, injuring three people and forcing flight restrictions at multiple airports, according to Russian authorities.

The governor of Russia’s Saratov region, Roman Busargin, said Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) struck civilian facilities, leaving three people injured. He said emergency services were responding to calls and that the injured were receiving medical assistance, Caliber.Az reports via ASTRA .

Russia’s aviation authority, Rosaviatsiya, said temporary restrictions were imposed on arrivals and departures at airports in Penza and Saratov.

Meanwhile, Russia’s Defence Ministry reported that 48 Ukrainian UAVs had been intercepted and destroyed over Russian regions within a three-hour period.

Explosions were also reported overnight in the Black Sea resort city of Sochi, in the Krasnodar Krai region. Local residents cited by the Telegram channel SHOT said they heard about ten explosions around 2 a.m. in several districts, including Adler District, Sirius Federal Territory and Lazarevsky District.

Russian air defence systems were reportedly engaging kamikaze drones over the Black Sea, with flashes from interceptions visible across the city. Local residents also reported that debris believed to be from a Ukrainian drone was found in a tree in one district.

Sochi Mayor Andrei Proshunin urged residents to remain in safe locations while emergency services responded.

Temporary restrictions were introduced at Sochi International Airport, with more than 60 flights rescheduled due to the drone attack.

Earlier in the evening, drones reportedly targeted Sochi at around 9 p.m., while authorities said one of the most extensive attacks occurred in the cities of Saratov and Engels, where residents reported hearing more than 60 explosions. Russian air defence systems were said to be responding to multiple waves of UAVs.
