Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant suffers another blackout
The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) experienced another blackout on Sunday, April 26, according to Ukraine’s state nuclear operator Energoatom.
The company said the outage occurred after the “Ferosplavna-1” transmission line was switched off, forcing the plant into blackout mode.
“For an hour and a half, the plant was supplied with electricity from 19 backup diesel generators. This is already the fifteenth blackout at ZNPP since its occupation. Each such incident significantly increases the risks of nuclear and radiation safety not only for Ukraine, but also for Europe.
The situation once again confirms the need for the fastest possible return of the plant under full control of Ukraine and its legal operator — Energoatom, which is the only guarantee of safe operation of the largest nuclear power plant in Europe,” the company’s statement read.
