Ukraine seeks Japan’s help to stabilise energy grid after Russian strikes PHOTO
Ukrainian high-ranking officials discussed the heavy strain on the country's energy sector with Japanese diplomats to discuss areas of further cooperation.
Deputy Energy Minister Roman Andarak informed representatives from Japan's Embassy to Ukraine on the consequences of Russia's latest strikes against the country's energy infrastructure, Caliber.Az reports citing his official statement on Telegram.
Andarak explained that despite the damage sustained to several generator facilities in several regions, workers are promptly carrying out restoration work to ensure the resumption of steady operation of the system.
In the course of the meeting, the parties discussed the need for the expedited provision of repair equipment, the formation of reserves for the rapid restoration of damaged facilities, and the strengthening of infrastructure protection. Andarak emphasised that the success of the repair works directly depends on having sufficient equipment reserves.
The deputy minister also expressed the ministry's complete openness to cooperation, which, in his words, is an important condition for strengthening confidence in international support mechanisms.
Special attention was paid to the expansion of Japanese companies' participation and the use of their technologies for the restoration and modernisation of Ukraine’s energy sector.
The Japanese side reiterated its intention to continue support through its International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and UNDP mechanisms, including the supply of equipment necessary to enhance the resilience of the energy system. The parties agreed to strengthen coordination and the exchange of experience for the effective implementation of recovery projects.
