Ukraine sends thousands of corruption cases against officials to court
Ukraine’s State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) says it sent more than 7,400 indictments to court in 2025, covering almost 7,900 people accused of corruption and other serious offences.
In a statement, the agency said those charged included three senior officials in the highest civil service category, six members of parliament, five former cabinet ministers and 25 judges, Caliber.Az reports.
The list also features nearly 1,500 law enforcement officers, along with dozens of tax officials, customs officers and prison service staff.
According to the SBI, investigators issued formal suspicion notices to about 21,500 individuals over the year and detained more than 2,000 people.
The bureau said its work focused on tackling corruption within state institutions and law enforcement agencies, as well as investigating alleged war crimes linked to Russia’s invasion. Other priorities included uncovering abuses in the defence sector and removing dishonest officials from the judiciary.
Ukraine has pledged to strengthen anti-corruption efforts as part of its drive to reform state institutions and move closer to European Union standards. The government has repeatedly said rooting out graft remains a key condition for continued international support.
