Ukraine, UK begin talks on historic bilateral agreement
Ukraine and the United Kingdom have commenced their first negotiations on a historic bilateral agreement aimed at establishing a closer and more mutually beneficial partnership between the two nations.
The Office of the President of Ukraine announced the development, emphasizing the significance of this potential agreement in strengthening ties between the two countries, Caliber.Az reports.
"The United Kingdom was the first to sign a security agreement with Ukraine, and now it is the first to work on a historic document concerning a 100-year partnership," the statement from the Office of the President highlighted.
The future agreement, which is still in the early stages of discussion, is expected to build on existing frameworks such as the 2020 Political Cooperation, Free Trade, and Strategic Partnership Agreement, as well as the 2024 Security Cooperation Agreement between Ukraine and the UK. The Ukrainian side underscored the importance of British support in restoring a just peace and preventing further aggression.
Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Ihor Zhovkva, who participated in the negotiations, stated, "The new document should include even more ambitious goals for our cooperation. We aim to enshrine unprecedented provisions across all areas of mutual interest: from security to the economy, from energy to culture and the arts."
