Ukraine, UK strike new deal for joint military production
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has met with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer in London to strengthen bilateral defence ties and push for tougher sanctions against Russia.
“Today’s meeting produced a significant result — an additional agreement on joint production. I believe it will strengthen both our nations," Caliber.Az informs, citing Zelenskyy's post on his Telegram channel.
The two leaders held in-depth discussions on expanding sanctions targeting key Russian sectors.
The Ukrainian president called for increased pressure on Russia’s energy and banking systems, the shadow fleet, suppliers of dual-use components, and individuals involved in the production of the "Oreshnik" weapons system.
Zelenskyy also underscored the importance of enhancing Ukraine’s defence capabilities through deeper cooperation with the UK.
“Collaboration in this area will allow Ukraine to secure stable financing for crucial projects, including the production of interceptor drones and long-range UAVs,” Zelenskyy said.
Air defence was another key focus of the talks, with both sides reaching new agreements aimed at bolstering Ukraine’s protection against aerial threats.
According to The Independent, Zelenskyy and Starmer also met with Ukrainian servicemen currently undergoing training in the UK as part of Operation Interflex. Standing before the troops, the two leaders announced the launch of a new military partnership, marking a deepening of defence collaboration between Kyiv and London amid ongoing Russian aggression.
