Ukrainian couple assaulted on tram in Poland, suspects arrested VIDEO
A Ukrainian couple was violently attacked by two men on a tram in Poznań, Poland, sparking concerns about rising tensions between local residents and Ukrainian nationals.
The assailants initially shouted insults at the couple, including “stay away from our women,” before physically assaulting them. The young man was knocked to the ground and beaten, while his partner was injured trying to defend him, Caliber.Az reports via Polish media.
City councillor Andrzej Prendke, who witnessed the attack and posted video footage online, said fellow passengers attempted to intervene verbally and physically, but the attackers continued their aggression and threatened others on board.
After the couple left the tram, councillor Prendke offered assistance, including contacting police and collecting additional evidence, but the victims declined to involve authorities.
Despite this, the police launched an investigation on their own initiative. Using CCTV and online videos, they identified and arrested two 27-year-old men — one from Poznań and one from a nearby suburb. Both are in custody and face charges of discrimination on national grounds, which carries a maximum sentence of five years under Polish law.
This is not the first recent incident involving conflict between Poles and Ukrainians.
