Ukrainian New Year attacks cut power to 736,000 across Russian regions
Ukrainian attacks during the New Year holidays left around 736,000 residents across Russian regions without electricity.
The largest blackout occurred in the Belgorod region, affecting about 600,000 consumers, Rodion Miroshnik, Russia’s ambassador-at-Large at the Foreign Ministry, told TASS.
“Due to massive strikes by the Ukrainian Armed Forces using drones and multiple-launch rocket systems against power generation facilities and electricity transmission and distribution systems during this period, at least 736,000 people were affected by outages,” Miroshnik said.
He added that during the New Year holidays, Ukrainian forces repeatedly attempted to strike as deep as possible into Russian territory.
Between January 1 and 11, drone-related incidents were recorded in 18 Russian regions located far from the active combat zone.
