Unknown projectile hits container ship in Persian Gulf, causing damage

British military authorities reported that a container ship was struck by a projectile in the Persian Gulf, causing damage to the vessel. 

The incident occurred in international waters south of Iran’s Kish Island, the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) Coordination Centre announced.

“UKMTO has received a time late report of an incident 25NM south of Kish Island, Iran. The container vessel was struck by an unknown projectile which has caused damage above the waterline. The crew are safe and accounted for. No environmental impact has been reported. Authorities are investigating,” the statement said.
